Expert Faculty Who Care About Your Success

Professor teaches his students with a smile on his face
Our faculty members are active scholars and researchers, but first and foremost they are committed to students and student success. At NVU, learning sometimes takes place in the traditional classroom setting, but your instructors will also take you out in the field to conduct experiments and gather data; invite guest speakers to broaden your understanding of the subject at hand; facilitate opportunities to attend professional conferences in your field; share their own professional research with you at our faculty research lecture series; arrange a visit to the Vermont State House during its legislative session; and more. And our high faculty-to-student ratio means that at NVU-Johnson your professors know who you are. You’ll get the chance to build relationships with your teachers that will last well beyond your college years.

High-impact Learning

High-impact, cross-disciplinary learning—through research, internships, student teaching, and other forms of experiential learning—enhances academic programs and expands our students’ world-view. As a student at our Johnson campus, you will be prepared to become a lifelong learner who is able to adapt to our ever-changing world. You’ll build on that foundation by gaining work-ready skills in your professional area, assisting professors with research and analysis for publications, conducting market research for a local business, student teaching, or interning in local or national companies. You’ll graduate with the skills and experience to stand out in the job market and have opportunities to network with successful alumni who know first-hand what an NVU graduate is capable of.

A Supportive, Friendly Campus Community

Students are here to support each other in everything they do

At NVU, we support one another. Our Badger athletes turn out for theatrical performances in Dibden. Our student artists cheer on the Badgers on field and courts. And EVERYONE shows up for the end-of-semester Dance Ensemble performance! Whether you’re sharing a poem or research paper you wrote at the Student Symposium in the spring, rallying your classmates to come laugh at a comedy show you helped arrange, or celebrating a student government initiative to encourage tolerance and diversity on campus, NVU students are enthusiastic about lots of things — not least of which is supporting each other.

A Gorgeous, Inspiring, Vibrant Setting

Students enjoy paddling down the river

We’re near Jay Peak, Stowe Mountain Resort, and Smuggler’s Notch, some of the best skiing spots in the Northeast. If you’re a paddler, hiker, climber, cyclist, or trail runner, you’ll find spectacular places to explore. We’re also one of the few campuses in the Northeast with a snowboarding park.

Our partly wooded, hilly campus has a disc golf course, ponds, and the campus-owned Babcock Nature Preserve of 1,000 acres nearby. The town of Johnson offers restaurants, shops, and a strong visual arts scene for you to enjoy — all in walking distance.
