Campus-Wide Memorial Service Planned

Moment of Remembrance and Celebration

April 29, 2015

A campus-wide memorial service for the five Lyndon State College students who passed away this year will be on Tuesday, May 5 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Alexander Twilight Theatre. The death of the students – Ed Horan, Holly Cannon, Todd Spaulding, Alex Duranleau, and Jake Gregg – shook the Lyndon community and left behind many grieving family members, friends, fellow students, professors, and advisors. The extended Lyndon community is invited to attend the service.

Lyndon President Joe Bertolino will present the opening remarks; one person is then designated to speak for each student. Ed Horan ’13 was honored by the Broadcast Education Association while still a student at Lyndon. He was working as a news producer for New Hampshire 1 News at the time of his death. Holly Cannon was a junior in the Electronic Journalism Arts Department. She also worked in the admissions office as co-coordinator of the student ambassadors. Todd Spaulding was a non-traditional student studying Psychology and Human Services. He was on leave from studies as a result of a serious car accident last spring. Alex Duranleau was a junior majoring in Psychology and Human Services. He was committed to a career in the human services field. Jake Gregg was a third-year student in the Music Business and Industry (MBI) program. Gregg was a member of the Americana Folk/Rock band “Suncooked.”

Psychology Professor Margaret Sherrer said, “A memorial service provides a public affirmation that honors the lives of these five Lyndon students who died too soon. A campus-wide memorial gathering is especially important to mourn these deaths.”

Electronic Journalism Arts Professor Meaghan Meachem helped co-ordinate the service with Sherrer and has hand-made 300 gold and green ribbons to pass out at the service. There will be a memorial table in the theatre lobby where attendees can write memories. MBI students will be performing music during the service, including some of Jake Gregg’s songs. MBI student Derek Campbell has co-ordinated the music.
