About Karen Madden

Karen Madden has worked in higher education administration for more than 25 years, first at Trinity College in Vermont and then at Northern Vermont University-Johnson.

As director of Academic Support Services and administrator of NVU-Johnson’s TRiO grant since 2011, Karen continues her involvement in supporting and advancing the interests of disadvantaged students.

She has long been involved in state, regional and national organizations devoted to these issues. For two years, she served as president of Vermont’s statewide TRiO organization (VEOP). On a regional level, she spent three years as president of New England’s TRiO organization (NEOA), and she has been a member of the Council for Opportunity in Education, TRiO’s national lobbying organization, serving on its board as New England president.

In addition, Karen Madden teaches history part-time at NVU-Johnson and the University of Vermont and finds time to participate in local town meetings held by members of Vermont’s U.S. congressional delegation, often advising them on education issues. She also serves on the Chittenden County Court Diversion Board, as secretary for the Brownell Library Foundation Board and as vice president of United Professions of Vermont
