About the Concentration in General Biology

The general biology concentration is designed for students who want comprehensive training in the life sciences for careers in education, research, and medicine. Our curriculum isn’t confined to the classroom, so you’ll explore the world in the field and the laboratory, working closely with professors and peers. You will conduct research and benefit from advanced learning opportunities typically reserved for graduate-level students.

In our program, you will learn to use instruments in the lab and the field and build skills in communicating about science in writing and oral presentations. You’ll also explore the relationships between science and society by integrating current biological evidence into discussions of global challenges.

Secondary Licensure

Students who earn a bachelor of science degree in biology with a concentration in general biology are eligible to pursue endorsement for secondary education teacher licensure. Learn more about licensure requirements here.

“Everyone in the science department gets great internships. Even if it’s not a job you think you could see yourself doing, it gives you experience, builds your resume and lets you know if you like that type of work.”
