Inclusive Childhood Education, B.A.

What You’ll Learn 

Through courses and practicum experiences, Vermont State’s Inclusive Childhood Education program will teach you the theories, research, standards, and practices that provide a solid foundation for a career as an educator passionate about teaching and committed to creating welcoming learning environments inclusive of all learners.  

Departmental priorities, like action research, collaboration, diversity, equity, and inclusion, are woven throughout your coursework and will help form your perspective and practices as a teacher.  

In addition to your core education courses, you will also complete a Liberal Arts and Sciences Concentration to build a broad knowledge base in areas including math, world history, biology, and visual art.   

During a 15-week, full-time student teaching placement and two additional practicums, you’ll get the chance to practice what you’ve been learning and receive feedback from experienced mentors.

Outside the Classroom, In the Community 

You’ll complete numerous fieldwork placements in schools and youth agencies, including two practicums and a semester-long internship. You’ll graduate as a skilled and knowledgeable education professional, an advocate for children and youth, and a critical thinker prepared to help children succeed in school and beyond. 

Previous students have: 

• Spent 60 hours in a practicum at Cambridge Elementary observing, designing and executing lesson plans, reading books to students, and helping the teacher. 
• Worked in the Stowe and Cambridge elementary schools in various roles, from student teaching to observing classrooms, teaching occasional math and literacy lessons, and working with students in special education classes. 

This program is accredited by the Vermont Agency of Education (AOE) Results Oriented Program Approval (ROPA) process, which is overseen by the Vermont Standards Board for Professional Educators.
