Exercise Professional/Strength and Conditioning

In the Exercise Professional/Strength and Conditioning Concentration, we’ll prepare you for a career in personal training, group fitness instruction, strength and conditioning of athletes, health and fitness education, disease prevention and rehabilitation, fitness facility operation, and more. You will also prepare for national certification examinations including the American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP), National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT), and will graduate ready to pursue graduate study, too.

Why Study Exercise Professional/Strength and Conditioning at Vermont State

  • Hands-On Training Experience: Graduate with up to two years of professional experience in the field as you work with real clients, athletes, and patients in one of our many internship opportunities. 
  • National Certifications: All degree concentration areas contain one or more national certification examination preparation courses embedded in the curriculum. National certifications provide additional job opportunities and are valued by most graduate school programs. 
  • Unique Accreditation: This Exercise Science Program is one of the 5% of undergraduate Exercise Science Programs in the country that are both CAAHEP Accredited and NSCA Recognized. Graduates are eligible to sit for advanced ASCM and NSCA national certification examinations. 

Program Accreditation 

This program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (2009-present) in coordination with the American College of Sports Medicine. 

The program is also recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Education Recognition Program (2005-present).
