About the Minor in Gender Studies
NVU-Johnson’s popular gender studies minor combines courses in various departments, so students can examine the issue of gender from different perspectives. The minor is designed to engage students in a wide-ranging exploration of historical and contemporary issues that brings together. gender, feminist, and queer studies into our everyday lives, including activism and movements for social change.
Traditionally focused on women’s and feminist issues, gender studies today introduces a more gender humanist approach, including people who identify as LBGTQ+ and perspectives of heterosexual males. You will study topics such as the social construction and role of gender within various societies, women’s historical and contemporary experiences, and multiple social identities. You’ll also gain a foundation for understanding the social, intellectual, cultural, and political forces that shape our personal and professional lives.
The minor is well-suited for students in any major but is especially appropriate if you’re pursuing a career in counseling, education, humanities, law, or the social sciences.
