Visual Arts

Take Your Creative Vision to the Next Level with a Degree in the Visual Arts

As a visual arts student, you will have many hands-on opportunities to build your skills in our well-equipped labs and studios, through internships, and in real-world projects in the broader community. While you find and follow the direction of your artistic vision, you’ll be supported by creative, collaborative faculty who will inspire you to produce your best work.

In addition to strengthening your technical abilities, our programs deliver a well-rounded education that helps you develop marketable communication skills through gallery talks and other public presentations as you share your art with the larger community. Whatever program you’re in, you’ll graduate with a portfolio that will help you launch your career.

Collaboration Runs Deep in Everything We Do

In our visual arts programs, critiques and other feedback from faculty, students, and professional artists will allow you to perfect your artistic voice. You’ll be ready for positions at museums and galleries, design and advertising firms, publishing and news media companies, and many other workplaces — or you may decide to start your own business.

Here are some options and highlights with our programs:

  • If you’re an art, media arts, or graphic design bachelor’s degree student, you can be accepted into a more intensive bachelor of fine arts program if faculty members approve your portfolio
  • Our animation and illustration program offers concentrations in game design and illustration and animation, so you can focus your skills as you prepare for your career
  • In our fine woodworking and furniture design program, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience creating pieces at the Vermont Woodworking School nearby, guided by professional woodworkers and furniture makers
  • As a cinema production student, you’ll have opportunities for career-boosting real-world experience working with Vermont’s Green Mountain Film Festival and Catamount Arts, the area’s premier arts center
