Earn a Degree in Fine Woodworking and Furniture Design
Vermont artisans have a long history of looking to the natural world for raw materials and inspiration to create beautiful art. Now Northern Vermont University offers a degree program for students who want to take their interest in woodworking and furniture to the next level.
NVU-Johnson students can earn a bachelor of fine arts or associate of arts degree through a partnership between NVU and the Vermont Woodworking School (VWS). One of the few programs of its kind in the country, this innovative collaboration allows you to work with expert craftspeople at VWS while pursuing an undergraduate degree from Vermont’s premier public liberal arts campus.
In our program, you’ll take required academic classes at NVU-Johnson and travel to VWS for hands-on woodworking courses. VWS, in Fairfax, Vermont, about 20 minutes from Johnson, is housed in a beautiful red barn in the scenic countryside and is a fully equipped, state-of-the-art woodworking facility.
