Graduate Continuing Education at Northern Vermont University
New: Special Education Sequence for Emergency Licensure
Beginning Summer 2023, NVU is excited to offer a sequence of four courses that will provide applied, practical training for educators who hold an Emergency License in Special Educators and are currently working in Vermont public schools. Participants completing the courses (and a supervised job-embedded teaching internship) will be eligible for an Initial Educator’s License and a Special Ed Endorsement.
To enroll in this sequence, participants must hold a VT Emergency Educator License and provide proof of their current employment as a Special Educator. Students will enroll as non-degree graduate students through Continuing Education utilizing this enrollment form: Continuing Education Registration Form. Registration for Planning and Assessment: EDU-5710-NO01, the first course in the sequence, is open now.

Through NVU’s Graduate Continuing Education courses, you can study topics that are personally interesting and relevant to your professional setting. Graduate Continuing Education courses are designed to meet the needs of working professionals with online, in-person, and hybrid options. These courses are open, space permitting, to individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree.
At NVU, you will enjoy affordable courses that integrate theory with applied experience. NVU’s Graduate Continuing Education courses are designed and instructed by university faculty who take a personalized approach to each participant’s learning. Courses may be stackable toward a graduate degree or certificate.

Instructional Format
- Hybrid – This course includes both scheduled in-person course meetings at set location(s) and times and online interactions, synchronous or asynchronous as determined by the instructor.
- Lecture – An educational discourse given to a class that often includes discussion and activity.
- Online – A course taught asynchronously and entirely online.
- Synchronous – This course is offered fully online with pre-scheduled synchronous class meetings through video conferencing. Class days and times must be specified, but no room is required.
- Seminar – Small, discussion-based classes. Seminars are usually for a small group of students in advanced status within their programs, graduate and professional students, or those participating in special programs such as Honors or learning communities.
