You’ll attend rehearsal, meet our faculty and students, tour campus, learn about our performing arts degrees, and find out about Northern Vermont University–Johnson. Students register for one of six tracks, work with our faculty and students, and prepare for an end-of-day culminating event. Some tracks have limited space available, so please make certain you register as soon as possible to guarantee a place for your students.

Pick a track to guide your day

  • Choral Workshop
    • Participants are required to purchase the music themselves and come with it prepared for the workshop. They can purchase the music online at www.jwpepper.com.
  • Contemporary Music and Improvisation
    • This is an entirely new strand designed around collaborative musical improvisation. In this session, you'll create new music that responds to, engages with, and portrays live theater production. You'll collaborate with members of NVU’s Con Temp improvisation ensemble in addition to sessions with students in the theater track. This is an open and welcoming class setting that will be supportive of performers at all levels: beginners who are nervous about improvisation to experts who want to learn another approach to music-making.
  • Javanese Gamelan
    • Learn about Indonesian music and the instruments that make up a Javenese Gamelan orchestra, like xylophones, gongs, and other percussions. Then you’ll get a chance to play. No experience is necessary. Gamelan music is simple to play and understand. But don’t be fooled, it’s also elaborate and fun when all the instruments play together.
  • Dance
    • Movers of all abilities are welcome. Please wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in.
  • Technical Theater
    • Discover all that goes into stagecraft through the design, manipulation, and build of immersive site-specific spaces around the Dibden Center for the Arts building. Through building these immersive spaces, students will be introduced to techniques in stage lighting and scenic design.
  • Theater
    • This is an entirely new strand for theater about ensemble movement and improvisation. If you have taken this in previous years we encourage you to take it again! You'll learn new ways to tell stories physically through shapes created by our own bodies and the shape and energy of the ensemble as a whole. This is an open and welcoming class setting that will be supportive of performers at all levels: beginners who are nervous about improvisation to experts who want to learn another approach to theater-making.
