About the Concentration in Pre-Medical
Our rigorous program prepares you for a variety of positions in medicine, science, and research as well as admission to medical school. Our program combines opportunities typically found at large research institutions with the personal learning community for which Northern Vermont University-Johnson is known.
In addition to core biology courses and labs (including physics, calculus, and general and organic chemistry), you’ll choose electives from a range of upper-level courses in anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nutrition, genetics, microbiology, kinesiology, and more.
Personal Attention from Faculty Helps You Succeed
You’ll benefit from small classes and personalized instruction, participate in faculty-mentored research, and complete coursework and lab experiences required for admission to medical school. If you plan to pursue medical school, we’ll encourage you to complete an internship or volunteer experience in a hospital, clinic, or other medical settings.
Students who succeed in our program can be prepared to take the Medical College Admissions Test by the end of their junior year.
Secondary Licensure
Students who earn a bachelor of science degree in biology with a concentration in pre-medical are eligible to pursue an endorsement in secondary education teacher licensure. Learn more about licensure requirements here.
