Make an impact with a degree in digital communications.
In this ever-changing digital age, businesses and organizations are seeking employees who are well-versed in digital communications. At NVU, you will learn more than just strategic communication theory and best practices. You will gain a solid foundation in professional writing, field production and editing, multiplatform storytelling, and current best practices within the industry — all while in small, personalized classes with faculty who are professionals in the field.
All digital communications majors begin with a common set of courses, and then each student will choose one of three concentration areas to focus their studies: cinema, journalism, or PR, marketing, and social media.
An Interdisciplinary Approach
This unique degree program provides students the skills they need for successful careers after graduation.
Students interested in the PR, marketing and social media concentration will take classes in the business department like social media marketing and business ethics, but also spend time in our visual arts department and learn to design websites and use graphic design software, while also honing in on cross platform video and audio storytelling.
Those interested in the cinema concentration will get opportunities to create short films while also getting the theory behind those who paved the way for today’s filmmakers.
Interested in journalism? You’ll work with peers in the journalism concentration to hone your video, digital editing, and storytelling skills, which culminates in four semesters working in our award-winning student-run News7 newsroom.
In your senior year, you will all come back together for a student-driven Senior Capstone to co-design a show or production using all of your skills combined. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Hands-on Learning
Through internships, case studies, and opportunities to work with local businesses for class projects, you’ll apply everything you’ve learned in class to real-world working examples. You could intern in our on-campus, the News7 studio, or take on an internship with a local business that needs help getting their products out to wider audiences using social media, video, or web.
North Never Stops Asking, “What’s Next?”
With our focus on creating real world opportunities and in-house internships, you’ll stand out in your job search and career.
Our 97% job placement rate proves that our students are ready to enter the real world. Many have taken jobs in sports information, public relations and marketing, social media and online magazines, news anchor or reporters, photojournalists, or many other positions in the ever changing and growing field of digital media.
