Welcome home.

In Northern Vermont University-Johnson’s Office of Residence Life, we understand that your on-campus room or apartment is your home away from home. Our mission is to do everything we can to provide an inclusive living environment where everyone can feel safe and welcome. We do this through programs and activities offered by our residence hall live-in staff and by helping resolve floor and room conflicts.

Each residence hall floor has an undergraduate Resident Assistant, each residence hall has a Hall Advisor who supervises the building, and all students on campus are welcome to visit or contact the Office of Residence Life in Dewey Hall with questions or concerns. Parents are welcome to call the Office of Residence Life with any questions that arise.

We honor specific housing requests to the best of our ability, keeping in mind the finite supply of rooms and the high demand for certain living areas. New students are assigned to housing based on a first-apply, first-assigned principle except in the case of documented special needs. Any documentation should be submitted to Academic Support Services before it can be considered in support of a housing request.

Housing Assignments

Housing assignments and roommate information will be made available via our housing management system, ERezLife. It is possible to view housing assignments via Self Service, but please be aware that assignments are sometimes temporary as we work on them throughout the spring. Residential Life will send an email to all residential students once those assignments are finalized.

CAMPUS RESIDENCE HALLS

Residence halls are open to any undergraduate, campus-based student who is taking 9 or more credits per semester. Northern Vermont University-Johnson requires students to live on campus for their first two years, except in situations detailed in the Housing Policies. On the Housing Application, you’ll be asked first what building you request. Use the information below to help inform your choice.

Arthur Hall is the only suite-style residence hall on campus. Each suite has four double rooms, a common room, and a bathroom. There is limited single room availability as well. Residents share responsibility for the common room and bathroom. Many students like the small, friendly micro-communities that form within each suite. Suites are designated single-sex. This building is extremely popular with returning students, but we do reserve some rooms for incoming students.

The building is designated substance-free. This means that residents sign an agreement that they will not possess, consume, or be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs while in the building. (The agreement does not extend to pharmacy drugs prescribed by a doctor or to the possession of tobacco.)

Governors is located directly on the quad, right next to Stearns Hall. It features a large common area in the North wing basement which hosts building-wide programming. Students like Governors because it is convenient to the center of campus and campus life. The building contains double, single and triple rooms. Each floor has a common area. Floors are designated single-sex.

If the demand for substance-free housing exceeds space in Arthur, one or more floors in Governors Hall may receive this designation. This means that residents sign an agreement that they will not possess, consume or be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs while in the building. (The agreement does not extend to pharmacy drugs prescribed by a doctor or the to possession of tobacco.)

Martinetti Hall hosts our campus administrative offices on the first floor. Second floor is shared between the Business Department and residence hall spaces, while the entire third floor is residential. All of the rooms are configured as double rooms but some are made available as single rooms each year.

Martinetti Hall room assignments are gender-neutral. The third floor bathrooms are designated single-sex, while the second floor bathroom is designated gender neutral. This means that any students who choose each other as roommates may room together. This building features a student kitchen and some of the best views on campus. For these reasons, most of the residents are typically upper-class students, but some incoming students are assigned there depending on availability.

The campus apartments are full-sized one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments located on campus. Students love the additional freedom, cost effectiveness, and convenience of these units. As a result, they are in high demand from returning students, who must meet eligibility requirements and have sufficient credits completed to be offered an apartment.

New students are eligible if they would otherwise be automatically exempt from the housing requirement, and families are welcome. Incoming students interested in a campus apartment are strongly encouraged to complete a Housing Application as early as possible. The apartments are unfurnished but do come with a fully equipped kitchen and include heat, hot water, electricity, snow removal, and trash/recycling removal in the rent cost.
