Explore Your Sense of Purpose with a Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies from Northern Vermont University

The liberal studies master of arts program at NVU-Lyndon is a self-designed, flexible program that satisfies diverse interests and needs for graduate study and prepares students for high-impact success. It’s an excellent choice for high school English, global studies, natural sciences, and math teachers. It’s also a great fit for people who want a graduate-level education in subjects as wide-ranging as creative writing, environmental studies, and interdisciplinary studies.

You’ll work with supportive professors in small classes where you’ll get personal attention. You and your faculty advisor will design a curriculum with which you will earn at least 36 credits. Some credits can be chosen from our extensive undergraduate course offerings with department and faculty approval. In that case, master’s candidates work with professors in those courses to complete extra research or study to make the coursework eligible for graduate credit.

North thinks deeper, climbs higher, and expands perspective.

To design your study plan, you’ll use one of four models:

Content area — a single focused area or discipline
Interdisciplinary — a combination of two related, complementary disciplines
Multidisciplinary — a combination of three disciplines or content areas
Secondary education — to further secondary-level teaching in any content area

We also offer a bachelor of arts degree in liberal studies at NVU-Lyndon.

The knowledge and relationships I’ve gained from classes, professors, peers, friends and others I’ve met through the program will help me to continually grow…
