Fall 2019: August 24-25

Fall Orientation is the final portion of your Northern Vermont University-Lyndon student orientation. Taking place the weekend before the first day of classes, this required program will provide you with the last bit of information needed for your NVU-Lyndon toolkit and several opportunities to get to know your classmates in a variety of fun activities! All events during Fall Orientation are required.

Saturday, August 24  
8 - 11 a.m. Residential Student Check-in, Stannard Gymnasium
11 a.m. - 12 p.m. Commuter Student Check-in, Stannard Gymnasium
12 - 1 p.m. Welcome BBQ, Veterans Park
1 - 1:30 p.m. Welcome, Alexander Twilight Theatre 
1:30 p.m.

1:45 p.m. Family Farewells
2 - 2:45 p.m.
Hornet Huddles, Theatre Lobby
Students will meet with their peer groups and go over the schedule for the weekend.
2:45 - 3:30 p.m.
Community Policies and Expectations
This workshop is an informational session introducing you to NVU policies, procedures, and community expectations.
3:45 - 4:30 p.m.
Common Read Workshop
Come prepared to discuss the Common Book with your completed worksheet and reading guide. Your workshop facilitator will lead a discussion on the main themes of the book and key takeaways.
4:30 - 5 p.m.
Residence Hall Huddles
 
Residential students will meet with their residence hall staff to review expectation within residential communities.
Commuter Student Mixer
Commuter students will meet together to review concerns and expectations of commuting to NVU from our expert commuting Peer Leaders.

 

5 - 6 p.m. Dinner
7 p.m.
A Shot of Reality
 
A Shot of Reality is an alcohol awareness show created out of serious, painstaking research, but performed by two professional comedians making these topics accessible and engaging. Covering multiple facets of responsible alcohol use, the show keeps students engaged with a powerful combination of levity and realistic discussion.
8 - 11 p.m.

Morning Energizer
Not a morning person? We have you covered. Join the Peer Leaders as they take you through some fun activities that are sure to get you energized for the day.
9:15 a.m. Day Two Welcome, Alexander Twilight Theatre
9:30 - 11:20 a.m.
Morning Workshops (Choose three)
· Time and stress management, ASAC 319
· Living on campus/roommate relationships, ASAC 309
· College study skills, ASAC 106
· Campus, local events, and attractions, ASAC 206
· Finding balance and organization, ASAC 216

11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Lunch

1 - 2:30 p.m.

Community Social, Veterans Park
Join together with your class, returning students, faculty, and staff for fun activities, games, conversations, and music on the new Veterans Park. 

3 - 5 p.m.
MMXIX Hornet Olympics
Orientation groups will compete against each other for ultimate bragging rights as the 2019 Hornet Olympic Champions.
(All students must wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty and closed-toe shoes)
5 - 6 p.m. Dinner with your Peer Group
6:30 - 7 p.m.
Variety Show
Share an evening of fun, laughs, and great entertainment as the Peer Leaders bring you a show you won’t soon forget.
