Take your first steps as a Northern Vermont University student at NVU-Lyndon’s SOAR.

SOAR (Student Orientation Advising and Registration) — Welcome, new students and families! We are all very excited to give you a heartfelt, informative, and educational welcome to Northern Vermont University and a solid start to your NVU journey.

SOAR begins virtually on Thursday, January 5 with an official welcome from the First Year Team and an introduction to the SOAR online course. You will also meet your Peer Leader at the kick-off zoom event.  Spring kick-off begins with check-in on the morning of Monday, January 16 . All new students are expected to participate in the days events which will include introductions and information sessions from various departments and social opportunities to help connect you to your peers and campus resources.

    • Continental Breakfast and Check-In

  • 9-9:15 a.m. Moore Community Room (ASAC 100)
    • Welcome to Lyndon:
      Jonathan Davis, Executive Director and Dean of Students
  • 9:45-10:15 a.m. Peer Leader Locations
    • Meet the Peer Leaders:
      Get to know the Peer Leaders and prepare for the upcoming semester while getting to know some of the other members of your class. You will learn about the importance of this orientation program and the support your Peer Leader will provide to you over your first semester at Lyndon.
  • 10:30-11:15 a.m. ASAC 206 Computer Lab (2nd Floor)
    • Intro to Web Services and Canvas:
      The Lyndon Portal is an important resource for all Lyndon students. You will learn how to access and navigate through this online resource by viewing your tuition bill, Canvas, email, campus announcements, and other important resources.
  • 11:15 a.m.-12 p.m. Start at Moore Community Room (ASAC 100)
    • Tour and schedule walk!
      Take a tour of the campus and visit your classrooms so you are all set to go on the first day of classes! The Peer Leaders will help you navigate your way and give you tips and tricks on shortcuts and resources all over campus!
  • 12:10 p.m. Theater Lobby (ATT)

  • 2:45-3:15 p.m. Various Locations
    • Residential Workshops:
      • Residential Life at NVU-Lyndon —Moore Community Room (ASAC 100)
        Students who will be living in the residence halls will learn about their new homes. Issues surrounding the housing agreement and the responsibilities of living on campus will be discussed.
      • Commuting to NVU-Lyndon – ASAC 206
        Topics unique to commuter students will be discussed during this session including: getting to class on time, where to park, what to do in between classes, and much more.
  • 3:20-3:50 p.m. Moore Community Room (ASAC 100)
    • Student Involvement Presentation:
      Learn about the different opportunities both on and off campus and how to get involved!
  • 3:50-4 p.m. Moore Community Room (ASAC 100)
    • Closing Program:
      The First Year Staff will meet for a final reminder of ‘to-do’s’, answer any final questions you may have
  • 6:30-8 p.m. Various Locations
