2013 musical theater graduate wins rave reviews for portrayal of Fantine in ‘Les Miserables’
April 9, 2014
Abby Maurice, a 2013 musical theater graduate who already has won such plum roles as Maria in the Lamoille County Players’ 2012 summer production of The Sound of Music, got a shout-out from The Burlington Free Press for her similarly high-profile role of Fantine in Lyric Theatre’s spring 2014 production of Les Miserables.
The show was the largest – and most costly – Lyric show in the theatre’s 40-year history.
In an April 8, 2014, review of the show, titled “Lyric Theatre Aims High and Gets There with ‘Les Miserables,’ “ Brent Hallenback noted that Maurice set a “classical tone” in her portrayal of “down-and-out factory worker Fantine. … The first-time Lyric performer received the loudest ovation Friday for her solo on ‘I Dreamed a Dream,” a reception rivaled only by the vibrant cheers reserved later in the night for [Ian] Ferris [as Jean Valjean] singing the touching ballad ‘Bring Him Home.’ “
