An Update on COVID Cases

A Message from President Elaine C. Collins:

Dear NVU Students, Faculty, and Staff,

I am writing to let you know we have a sixth positive COVID-19 case. This case involves a staff member on the Johnson campus. The staff person is isolating at home. We have completed our own internal contact tracing and are working with the Vermont Department of Health on next steps. As of March 21, we have conducted 5,599 tests.

Thank you for staying vigilant! On the eve of your two-day academic break, I call on you to stay put. Stay on campus or at home if you commute. Please, do not travel. Use this break as a respite from your academic work. Enjoy the early spring warmth by going for a walk on campus, eating your lunch outside, or visiting with friends outside masked and at a safe distance. Please support the NVU community by doing all you can to keep members of the community safe. Though vaccinations are underway in Vermont, COVID-19 variants are on the rise nationwide. Keep up your amazing work. You are doing an excellent job keeping our numbers low.

Students and employees who live, teach, work, or learn on campus should test weekly throughout the semester. The next testing is tomorrow, Tuesday, March 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.—in the Multi-Gym at Johnson and in the Moore Community Room (ASAC 100) at Lyndon. Please send questions related to testing to Dean of Students Jonathan Davis.

Thank you for following health and safety protocols:

  • Get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Remember to mask and socially distance.
  • Submit your daily symptom check. NorthernVermont.edu/Screening.
  • Students, no cross-household visitation of any kind is allowed.
  • Visit NorthernVermont.edu/ReturnToNVU to stay up-to-date on notices and health and safety information.

If you are contacted by the Vermont Department of Health contact tracing team at any time, please answer the call—this is to protect your health and to contain spread of the virus. You can find Vermont COVID-19 information at healthvermont.gov/covid19.

Please join me in keeping the health of our NVU staff member in mind.

Thank you. #MASKUPNVU #TESTWEEKLYNVU
