Atmospheric Sciences/Meteorology Students Chase Storms Across 10 States

Ari Preston, assistant professor of atmospheric sciences, and four NVU-Lyndon students (Bobby Saba, Catie McNeil, Camryn Kruger, and Maddie Degroot) participated in the SUNY Oswego Storm Forecasting and Observation Program. Together, they tracked three visible tornadoes (and one rain-wrapped), over a dozen wall clouds, dust devils, quarter-inch hail, mammatus clouds, iridescence, and incredible lightning activity.

During the trip across 10 states, students gained hands-on experience launching weather balloons, collecting data, and using technology to track storms.
