Author Helen Benedict to Speak at JSC About Women Soldiers
April 21, 2009
On Tuesday April 21, 2009 Helen Benedict, author of five novels and five books of nonfiction, will read from and discuss her new book, The Lonely Soldier: the Private War of Women Serving in Iraq, released by Beacon Press. The book focuses on what Benedict describes as the “double war” that female soldiers must fight “against the so-called enemy and against discrimination and sexism from their own male comrades.”
At 4 p.m., Ms. Benedict will lecture on the subject of women soldiers in Iraq.
At 7 p.m. she will read from the book.
Both events will take place in the Ellsworth Room in the JSC Library and Learning Center. The event is free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend. You can read more about Helen Benedict and her work by visiting her Web site: www.helenbenedict.com.
