Regional Workforce Has New Career Advancement Opportunities with New Center for Professional Studies at Lyndon State College

LYNDON CENTER, VT – Professionals have new opportunities to advance their careers thanks to Lyndon State College’s new Center for Professional Studies (CPS). The Center offers non-degree education such as certificate, diploma, and licensure programs to professionals and those working to increase skills, catch up with technology, excel in their careers, advance to new positions, and enhance their communities. Classes are offered through traditional classroom learning and online platforms.

“Lyndon State College saw the workplace need and created relevant and flexible programs for professionals and others to advance their careers and lives,” notes Ann Nygard, director of the Center for Professional Studies. “Combined with the LSC Certiport Testing Center, a first for Vermont, the Center for Professional Studies provides local access to attaining the national-level certification that addresses the demands of evolving workplaces so that our regional workforce can progress and improve throughout their careers.”

The Center for Professional Studies serves adults looking for industry-recognized credentials, working professionals wanting to upgrade their skills, and Lyndon students looking to earn industry-recognized credentials and their degree simultaneously.

Career improvement offerings range from boot camps for Quickbooks and Adobe Photoshop to GIS, project management, and hospitality management.

Lyndon State College built the center to meet the regional workplace needs where 63,754 (19%) of Vermonters have “some college, no degree” as their highest level of educational attainment, a predictor of income earning potential. Most want and need a practical path to a sustainable livelihood.

In today’s fast-paced, technology-rich work world, a pathway for continual skill upgrade is necessary for many professionals to remain competitive in the workforce. CPS delivers these educational and credentialing services.

Lyndon State College’s new Certiport Authorized Testing Center for Intuit and Adobe products will be part of CPS. It is the first certified testing center in Vermont for these products. Previously, those wanting to take certification exams had to travel to Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or New York. Certiport is the leading provider of value-added, computerized test delivery services that include an expanding network of testing centers worldwide. These programs pair with LSC’s inventory of American Hotel and Lodging certification education offered since spring 2016.

The first of Lyndon’s Center for Professional Studies programs begins this October with an online Project Management Fundamentals course. For a complete listing of courses and certificate testing dates, visit http://www.Lyndonstate.edu/Professional.
