COVID-19 Update | In-Person Classes Resume | 1 Expected Positive

A Message from Interim President John W. Mills:

Dear NVU Students, Faculty, and Staff,

We will resume in-person instruction on Tuesday, September 7 on the Johnson campus. Our testing on Friday resulted in one expected positive connected to the other cases. That residential student has been in quarantine since being identified as a close contact. All active positives are either in isolation on campus or off. This brings our total to twelve positives on the Johnson campus since the start of the semester. Athletics practice will resume on Monday with matches resuming Tuesday. The SHAPE facility will reopen on Monday as well.

I want to remind each of you how critically important proper masking is when we are inside with others. This includes when we are passing through hallways.

  • This means wearing a proper mask covering the mouth and nose with no gaps.
  • Mask Up for your health and that of your fellow students, faculty, and staff.
  • When you are a member of a community, you have a responsibility to other members of that community. NVU is Heart.
  • When you see a member of our community who isn’t masking up or masking up the right way, give a reminder! NVU is Action.

To date, we have 99% vaccine policy compliance with a 95% vaccination rate for students who are, or will be, on campus during the academic year. We have a few non-degree seeking and hybrid graduate students who still need to submit their cards. These students have been formally warned not to come to campus without first complying with the policy. Please submit your vaccination cards here NorthernVermont.edu/COVID19Vaccination.

Thank you to the residential life, public safety, facilities, custodial, Sodexo, and athletics staff who have assisted in supporting our testing, tracing, vaccine clinics, quarantine, and isolation programs. You make a difference in the lives of our students, faculty, and staff every day.

Enjoy your long weekend. Yesterday was a gorgeous day. Get outside today before the rain comes later in the day.

Thank you,
John
