July 15, 2013
Associate Professor David Plazek of Johnson State College has co-authored an article in Volume 46, Issue 3, of the peer-reviewed journal PS: Political Science & Politics titled “Political Science Funding Black Out in North America? Trends in Funding Should Not Be Ignored.”
The article, co-written with Alan Steinberg of the University of Houston, criticizes congressional efforts to cut funding of political science research by the National Science Foundation, explains why continued research in the field is important, and compares current U.S. budget and political trends with those of Canada, which last year stopped funding its acclaimed “Understanding Canada” research program. The article is available at: http://journals.cambridge.org/repo_A89R68n8.
In addition to teaching courses on Canadian politics and other topics at Johnson State College, Dr. Plazek has launched the Institute of Canadian Studies at JSC with the goal of enhancing our understanding of our neighbor to the north.
