Exhibit by Barbara Molloy Opens at JSC on August 22

“Celebrating Freedom,” a retrospective of works on paper by the late Barbara Molloy, a longtime printmaking instructor at Johnson State College, will be displayed in her memory Aug. 22 through Sept. 2 at the Julian Scott Memorial Gallery on campus.

A reception, free and open to the public, will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at the gallery.

The Molloy exhibition is the first of many new exhibits exploring fine arts, performance and installation planned for the fall semester at JSC.

Molloy, who also taught design and drawing to undergraduate and graduate students at JSC for 24 years, died in March 2015.

“Her work embodies a deep commitment to personal exploration, art and intuition. It marks a transition from physical elements of life to the nonphysical elements of life to which we all belong,” says gallery director and assistant professor Michael Zebrowski.

“This exhibit welcomes and encourages you to feel, witness and experience artistic growth, personal transitions and rhythmic vibrations of color,” he adds. “In Molloy’s hands, color, line and composition unite to form variation within the repetitions.”

Molloy earned her B.F.A. at Hunter College, taught in Vermont’s Adult Basic Education program and was a resident artist and staff member at the Vermont Studio Center before joining the JSC faculty.

The Julian Scott Memorial Gallery is located in Dibden Center for the Arts on the JSC campus. It is open to the public 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, as well as during Dibden Center events. Admission is free.
