Recognizing that financial literacy in today’s world is almost as important as learning to read and write, Johnson State College will present its first Financial Literacy Day on Tuesday, March 11. Free and open to the public, the event features five workshops, including a session on Vermont Health Connect, the state’s new health insurance program.

Financial Literacy Day will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting with check-in and refreshments in 200 Bentley Hall Seminar Room. At 10 a.m. in 207 Bentley Hall, Henrique Cezar, associate professor of business, and President Barbara E. Murphy will give opening remarks. Vermont State Treasurer Beth Pearce and U.S. Rep. Peter Welch also are invited to speak.

Workshops will be held from 10:45 to 1 p.m., followed by a complimentary lunch and optional campus tour.

In addition, free tax assistance will be offered on a walk-in basis from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Martinetti Hall, Room 108 (the HTM lab). There is no need to sign up for tax assistance.
