Green Mountains Review Poets Honored
Editor, contributors recognized by national publications
September 19, 2014
Work by an editor and two contributors of Green Mountains Review (GMR), the literary magazine based at Johnson State College, has been recognized by national publications:
- The Best American Poetry blog focused on Elizabeth Powell, editor of GMR, and her poetry in an Aug. 6, 2014, post titled “The Poet as Editor: Elizabeth Powell.” David Lehman, editor in chief of the blog, says that Powell belongs in the “company of exemplary editors” such as Paul Hoover, co-editor of New American Writing; David Baker, poetry editor of the Kenyon Review; and the Review‘s late editor, Jeanne Leiby.
“I admire the taste in poetry on display in Green Mountains Review, where Powell is the poetry editor,” Lehman writes. He uses the opportunity to focus on Powell’s poetry as well, including an excerpt from “Jiffy Lube, Byway 17, North Medford, IL” and noting it was also posted on Zocalo Public Square, a not-for-profit Ideas Exchange hosted by the Center for Social Cohesion at Arizona State University.
-
Powell’s poem “At Old Yankee Stadium” is included in the acclaimed anthology of poems about baseball called Heart of the Order (Persea Books).
-
Poetry by Olena Kalytiak Davis and Eileen Myles, both contributors to GMR, was chosen for inclusion in Best American Poetry 2014 (Scribner), edited by National Book Award-winning poet Terrance Hayes.
