Ishmael Beah Speaks At JSC
October 22, 2007
Author and human rights activist Ishmael Beah spoke to a full house at JSC’s Dibden Center for the Arts on Monday, October 22. From Sierra Leone, Beah was pressed into service as a child soldier during civil war and was later rescued and rehabilitated. Beah writes about his experience and his struggle for peace and hope in his best-selling memoir, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of A Boy Soldier.
Members of the JSC community have spent much of the fall semester engaged in a discussion about Beah’s book, which was the first assignment in the JSC Common Reading Initiative.
The event was free and open to the public.
