Gov. Scott to Speak at Johnson State College Commencement May 19

Vermont governor will address graduates and guests at Johnson’s final commencement as JSC.

April 25, 2018

Gov. Phil Scott will speak May 19 at Johnson State College’s 151st commencement, at which about 310 associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees are expected to be conferred. The 11 a.m. ceremony will be on the college’s South Lawn.

Tent seating for the ticketed ceremony will be reserved for graduating students, their guests, and those involved in the commencement. Other guests may watch the ceremony from the lawn, as it is simulcast at the Dibden Center for the Arts on campus, or online at jsc.edu. Gates will open at 9 a.m., and parking will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Johnson State College is honored that Gov. Phil Scott has accepted our invitation to address the 2018 graduating class. Gov. Scott’s career as a public servant and ability to build bridges across competing factions make him an ideal choice, as his message will inspire and motivate our students to address effectively the complex issues they will face in their own careers,” notes JSC President Elaine Collins. “Gov. Scott has been a strong advocate for the Vermont State Colleges System, securing the initial funding for Northern Vermont University and the first increase in state funding for the system in many years. Through his support, Gov. Scott has helped raise the profile for the important and critical role that public higher education plays in the health and prosperity of our state.”

The event will be the last commencement for JSC before it officially becomes Northern Vermont University-Johnson in a unification with Lyndon State College July 1. After the transition, NVU-Johnson and NVU-Lyndon will continue to host separate commencements each spring. For more information, call 802.635.1257 or email JSC.Registrar@jsc.edu.
