Johnson State Community Stacks Firewood for Needy Families
September 18, 2013
Johnson State College community members participated in the annual United Way of Lamoille County Firewood Project on Saturday, Sept. 14. Volunteers spent the day stacking and moving firewood. The Firewood Project strives to provide free firewood to local families for the winter season.
Participants volunteered through Johnson State’s SERVE Local program, which sponsors community-service events to connect students with Johnson and other local communities and provide help where it’s needed. The program aims to encourage student leadership development and provide assistance to JSC’s community partners, including animal shelters, nursing homes, community centers and outdoor areas.
