Johnson State to Host Workshop, Training on Supporting Children of Military Families

Area educators, guidance counselors, school administrators and other helping professionals are invited to register for a free workshop and professional training to be held Oct. 10-11 at Johnson State College on how to support children of military families.

The two-day program, dubbed the “Supporting Children of the National Guard and Reserves Institute,” is sponsored by the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) and funded by the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense/Department of the Army. It is designed to help professionals support children and families of the National Guard and Reserve and understand the issues facing the military child.

Participants may earn 1.2 continuing-education credits for $25 and/or one hour of graduate credit for $175 from Texas A&M University, payable upon successful completion of the training. The program is free, but space is limited. Register early at www.militarychild.org(click the Training tab) to ensure a spot. The institute runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Stearns Performance Space at JSC and includes breakfast and lunch.

The training at JSC is one of six being held in the Vermont. Others are taking place in Norwich, Bennington, Burlington, White River Junction and Randolph.
