Johnson State to Observe Constitution Day on Sept. 17 – and Beyond

Johnson State College will observe U.S. Constitution Day on Monday, Sept. 17, and throughout the fall with voter registration drives, a Student Government Association town meeting, distribution of pocket-sized copies of the U.S. Constitution, and visits from local and state political candidates.

Students will have the opportunity to learn about and participate in the electoral process through a number of events, including:

  • Monday, Sept. 17: The SGA will hand out copies of the Constitution and hold a town meeting for students to discuss how the organization can best serve them. Watch the Johnson State Web site’s Calendar of Events for a time and place. The SGA is loaning the film A More Perfect Union to interested students.   • Students also may visit the Vermont Secretary of State’s online College Voter Guide athttp://www.sec.state.vt.us/collegevoters.html. The site provides information on voter eligibility and explains how to register to vote.

  • Monday, Sept. 24: Residence Life has scheduled a voter registration drive from 1 to 4 p.m. on Voter Registration Day.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 23: The SGA will hold a voter registration drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Stearns and 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Wiley Library and Learning Center (LLC).

  • Throughout the fall: Professor and State Sen. Bill Doyle’s “Campaign and Elections” class will host candidates running for local and state positions. The SGA plans to work with Professor Doyle to highlight and publicize these events, which are open to the broader community.
