New Program Eases Path for JSC Grads to Pursue Graduate Degree at Vermont Law School

March 17, 2014

Students at Johnson State College and the Community College of Vermont now have the opportunity to prepare for the challenges of graduate study at Vermont Law School and receive a $15,000 annual scholarship while pursuing a master’s or law degree there.

The program, called “Pathways to Law and Policy for Vermonters,” is a partnership of JSC, Vermont Law School and the Community College of Vermont. The program extends to CCV students who complete their associate’s degree and subsequently earn a bachelor’s degree from JSC either as a residential student or through JSC’s External Degree Program.

Students will be accepted into the program based on their academic record, integrity and commitment to further study. These “Pathways scholars” will receive intensive academic support and will be able to audit a summer course at Vermont Law free of charge while enrolled at CCV or JSC. They also will be invited to select lectures, receptions and other events at Vermont Law School, which will cover their cost of transportation to its Randolph campus.

Scholars who matriculate into VLS will receive an annual scholarship of $15,000 as long as they maintain good academic standing. They may enroll in the master’s program in environmental law and policy, the master’s program in energy regulation and law, or, with the appropriate LSAT score, in the accelerated or three-year juris doctor (J.D.) program.

“We are pleased to offer our students this exciting new opportunity to achieve their educational and career goals,” said JSC President Barbara E. Murphy, adding that the Pathways program “will position our graduates for leadership roles in law and policy, opening doors to rewarding careers in Vermont and beyond.”
