Alumna Bonnie Fairbanks has returned to her alma mater as director of human resources at Johnson State College.

Fairbanks, who graduated with a B.A. in Psychology in 1981, was appointed June 4, 2007.

Fairbanks has 15 years of human resource management experience, and has worked with six different unions in Vermont. She has also worked in the private and public sectors, and in state and municipal government. Areas of expertise for Fairbanks include HR program development, implementation and administration; employee relations and communications; organization policy and procedure development; employee recruitment and retention; and position classification/compensation.

Fairbanks’ experience includes working in human resources at the Institute for Sustainable Communities in Montpelier from January 2003 to June this year; Saint Michael’s College in Colchester from July 2001 to December 2002; and Goddard College in Plainfield from October 1991 to June 2001.

She also managed investor relations at Green Mountain Power Corporation in Colchester from June 1991 to June 1999, and managed human resources there from March 1987 to May 1991. Fairbanks was the personnel director for the City of Burlington from December 1985 to March 1987.

After graduating, Fairbanks worked for the State of Vermont, as personnel administrator for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Services from September 1981 to August 1984; as interim chief, Recruitment and Testing, State Personnel Department, from August 1984 to July 1985; and as assistant to the director of personnel operations from July to December, 1985.

Fairbanks’ professional affiliations and volunteer activities include: Vermont Human Resource Association; Personnel Cooperative (International); being a former member of the National Association of Investor Relations; and being a former member of the Fund for Johnson State College; Habitat for Humanity. She has also served on town and school committees, non-profit boards, and a State of Vermont Commission. Fairbanks and her husband live in Worcester.
