JSC Plays Role in Vermont Documentary Series
Students in Professor Doyle’s classes look at life in Vermont counties

The Barre-Montpelier Times Argus profiled a documentary series titled “The Life in” series, which visits each Vermont county. Airing on Vermont Public Television, the mini-series was created by more than 100 students from Professor Bill Doyle’s classes over the past eight years; they worked with videographer Vince Franke. The series began with “Life in Bennington County” on Aug. 6, with additional shows Aug. 13 and 20.
“This is a great collection of interviews and stories,” Doyle, a state senator, told the Times Argus. “This remarkable documentary provides a unique glimpse into life in throughout Vermont.”
“We developed a template of students interviewing local people and trying to capture the oral histories of that area,” Franke told the Times Argus. “I fill the role of coproducer, videographer and editor. The students make the phone calls, interview the people.”
Daniel Regan, dean of academic affairs, is quoted as saying that the series bolsters the school’s commitment to “disseminating knowledge about our local region. We encourage JSC students to develop an appreciation of the local community.”
