Dancers, musicians to present annual December performances
November 28, 2015
Take a break from holiday preparations and check out Johnson State College’s annual end-of-the-semester performances, several of them with a holiday twist. The shows, all held on stage at the Dibden Center for the Arts, are open to the public.
Upcoming performances include:
-
Friday, Dec. 4: JSC students light up the stage with their infectious rhythm and enthusiasm in the JSC Dance Show at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but get your tickets early, because the Dance Show nearly always sells out. For tickets or more information, contact the Dibden Box Office, jscdibden.boxoffice@jsc.edu or 802-635-1476.
-
Wednesday, Dec. 9: Join the JSC ensembles for a night of music as student musicians perform a range of styles, including jazz, funk/fusion and more. The performance is at 7 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, contact the Dibden Box Office, jscdibden.boxoffice@jsc.edu or 802-635-1476.

Friday, Dec. 11: A free concert at 7 p.m. will feature more JSC musicians. The students in JSC’s “Worlds of Music” class will put down their notebooks, pick up their hand-built instruments and perform music from Eastern Europe, Japan, Africa and Indonesia. They will perform a Macedonian folk song, play, sing and dance a Ghanaian song using the mbiras they built, perform a rendition of the familiar Japanese song, Sakura, on their kotos and play music from Indonesia on a full Javanese Gamelan Orchestra. The second half of the concert will feature the 50-piece, fully instrumented JSC Concert Band playing music inspired by American folk songs, including premieres of two pieces by the group’s director, Steven Light. There will be familiar songs from many idioms of American music ranging from traditional folk songs to contemporary compositions to jazz. For more information, contact Steven Light, adjunct music professor and coordinator of music education, steven.light@jsc.edu or 802-635-1370.
