JSC to Host Feb. 22 Open House for ‘Think College’ Program

The “Think College” program at Johnson State College will host an open house on Friday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Stearns Student Center.

Launched in fall 2011, Think College @ JSC is a two-year academic, social and vocational program for students with autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disabilities who are 18 to 26 years old and seeking a college experience. The program focuses on academic enrichment, socialization, independent living skills, self-advocacy skills and integrated work experiences.

Participants are supported in part by graduate and undergraduate students majoring in education and other fields at JSC, and they have the opportunity to earn a non-degree Certificate of Higher Education from JSC.

Sponsored by the JSC Department of Education, Think College at JSC incorporates student-centered planning, academic advising and peer mentors for an inclusive, supportive college experience.

The open house is geared toward prospective students and their family members as well as teachers, counselors, community agencies and the general public. Current students, parents and staff will be available to answer questions. Prospective students are strongly encouraged to attend.
