JSC to Partner with Morrisville Family Health Services for Student Health Care
JSC Wellness Services
College to Partner with Morrisville-based Facility
July 10, 2015
On July 31, 2015 JSC’s contract with Community Health Services of Lamoille Valley (CHSLV) will end. Our very positive partnership with CHSLV has allowed us to provide limited on-campus health services to our students for over 10 years.
To accommodate on-going student requests for more extensive health care services, the College will continue to partner with CHSLV, specifically the Morrisville Family Health Services (MFHS) facility, located approximately eight miles from campus, to provide a wide range of health care services to our students.
MFHS Staff and Services
The MFHS staff: The MFHS staff consists of five medical doctors, a family nurse practitioner and a registered nurse. You can learn more about the MFHS staff here.
Priority appointments: Priority appointments will be given to Johnson State students Monday through Friday from 1-4pm*.
JSC Morrisville Shuttle Service: The College will provide round trip transportation to MFHS for students during these hours. The Wellness Center staff assistant will provide guidance and support for students who need to schedule non-emergent medical appointments at MFHS. In addition to providing transportation to MFHS during the hours mentioned above, the shuttle service will also provide round trip transportation to Johnson’s Sterling Market and the Morrisville “Big Lots” Plaza. Requests to travel to other Morrisville locations may be considered as well.
Students can secure an appointment with MFHS by: * Calling the JSC Wellness Center at x1265 or stopping by the office in Senators Hall South for guidance from the staff assistant and to secure a seat on the shuttle service, if needed. * Calling MFHS directly at 888-8639. Please identify yourself as a Johnson State College student * Students will be required to bring their insurance card and money or check for a co-payment (if applicable) to MFHS.
*Note: students who have made other transportation arrangements may opt to schedule an appointment outside of the hours mentioned above. The hours of operation at MFHS are Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Saturday: 8:30 – 11 a.m.
Campus-Based Services
As part of our commitment to health and wellness promotion and as a Vermont state law requirement, we must ensure that all students are protected against communicable disease. Please complete and return the required Health Form including a copy of your insurance card at your earliest convenience. A vaccine record is also required and can be obtained by your physician’s office, or high school.
The Johnson State College Wellness Center will continue to be staffed by a licensed Counselor, two part-time professional counselors, graduate student counseling interns, and a staff assistant.
The Wellness Center offers students a safe and confidential place for self-exploration and personal growth. Individual, couples and group counseling services are available. Services also include referrals to community resources, presentations/workshops, campus-wide mental-health screenings and mental-health crisis assistance. The Wellness Center will also provide health education, wellness promotion, and self-care programs throughout the academic year. Wellness Center services are available at no charge to any student who is enrolled at Johnson State College.
Please feel welcome to contact Assistant Dean of Students Michele Whitmore in the Dean of Students/Residence Life Office at (802)635-1200 with any questions regarding this change in on-campus student health care services.
