Johnson State College’s External Degree Program has won the Vermont State Merit Award as part of the 11th annual New England Higher Education Excellence Awards. The award will be presented by the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) at its annual awards ceremony on March 8 in Boston.
More than 400 people, including leaders of education, business and government from across New England, are expected to attend the event.
The award is one of six state merit awards – one in each New England state – presented to an individual, program, organization, institution or business for exemplifying, through their work, excellence in promoting college readiness and success for the students of New England.
Also in Vermont, Donald R. Vickers, president and CEO of the Vermont Student Assistance Corp. (VSAC), will receive the NEBHE’s Eleanor M. McMahon Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Since 1955, the NEBHE has promoted greater educational opportunities for the residents of New England. The board’s core functions include programs and services focused on cost savings and affordability and college access and success.
