Josh Aither gains sport-management experience working with the National Women’s Soccer League

May 12, 2015

Josh Aither of Hyde Park, a junior at Johnson State College and a 2012 graduate of Lamoille Union High School, is working as an intern with the Boston Breakers of the National Women’s Soccer League. The league is the highest level of women’s soccer in the country, with many international and national soccer stars playing on club teams.

A business major concentrating in sport management at JSC, Josh had his first day on opening day April 26, helping with game-day operations and ticketing. He will work at each home game through Aug. 8 at Harvard University’s Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium in Allston, Mass.

Aither netted his internship after attending a career fair in March at Gillette Stadium – home field of the New England Patriots, New England Revolution and UMass-Amherst football team, in Foxborough, Mass. – with six other JSC business students. Their trip was funded by JSC President Barbara E. Murphy and the college’s Department of Business & Economics.

“Josh had an amazing experience his first day and is looking forward to learning more at each home game throughout the summer,” said Kristin Cannon, JSC’s assistant director of athletics for student-athlete development and head women’s soccer coach, who accompanied the students to the career fair and taught their “Sports & Society” class.

In addition to Aither, two other JSC students received internship offers at the fair as well, she added.
