Cannon Joins Johnson Athletics Staff

Johnson State College Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Kristin Cannon as Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development and Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach. Cannon, who will start in August, brings an impressive set of experiences as a mentor, coach, and student-athlete to the Johnson Athletics Department.
Cannon recently completed her Master’s Degree in Sports Management at Springfield College and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing/Psychology at Assumption College where she was a four-year standout on the soccer field for the Greyhounds. She brings with her experiences organizing community service and marketing and promotions initiatives for student-athlete’s while also assisting with academic monitoring and progress during her time both at Springfield and Assumption. In addition Cannon has volunteered for both the Special Olympics and National Girls and Women in Sport Day. Cannon has completed teaching fellowships at both Springfield and Assumption while also assisting both women’s soccer programs in all aspects including recruiting, training, scouting, compliance, fundraising, and more.
While at Assumption Cannon was not only a 2nd Team All-Region and 2nd Team All-Academic selection as a senior, and 1st Team All-Region as a junior, but was also named the recipient of the College’s Reverend Desautels Memorial Award as the premier female senior student-athlete. Cannon helped lead the Greyhounds to as high as #3 in the NCAA Division II national rankings and led them to a pair of NCAA Division II Tournament “Sweet 16” births. Cannon was a 1st Team All-Northeast 10 player as a junior and a senior and remains tied atop the all-time list at Assumption for games played and started.
“It is an honor to be named the new Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development at Johnson State,” stated Cannon. “The previous coordinator developed and implemented a solid foundation and I look forward to having the opportunity to continue to work to promote civic responsibility through community service and service learning. Having met many members of the JSC family, I am excited to work collaboratively with student-athletes, staff, faculty, and the community to foster individual and team growth to enhance the student-athlete experience.”
“My main goal is to meet with as many members of the Johnson State community to understand more of the culture and the needs of the student-athletes,” continued Cannon. “This will allow us to develop programming that is reflective of their interests and will develop them as lifetime leaders and increasing the value of their overall collegiate experience.”
“Johnson State’s athletic department and programs are in the midst of creating a different environment and it is an exciting time to be a part of this changing culture. Everyone seems to be genuinely excited at the prospect of creating a competitive environment and enhancing the student-athlete experience. I share in that excitement and am thrilled to join the JSC Athletics Department and Coach (Ray) Campanile’s staff.”
