Local Permaculturist Keith Morris to Give Talk on Peak Oil and Transitions Towns

On Thursday, February 18, 2010, local permaculture educator and designer Keith Morris will give a talk entitled “Designing a Positive Post-Petroleum Future: Permaculture and Participatory Ecology.” The talk will beging at 4 p.m. in the Performance Space in Stearns Student Center on the JSC campus.

Morris describes his talk as follows: “As we acknowledge the convergent crises of Peak Oil, Climate Change, and economic ‘uncertainty’, we can listen to the apocalyptic visions of ‘doomers’, or embrace one of the greatest opportunities in generations to restructure society with ecological and ethical sanity, and local resilience. This presentation introduces the concept of permaculture, and explores the ways we can design and establish our homes and communities as ‘human ecosystems’ that are not only less fuel reliant, but also beautiful, productive, ecologically regenerative, and wholly nourishing.”

Keith Morris is a designer, educator, organic farmer, and natural builder who works to facilitate healthy and healing human ecosystems. He integrates community building, ecological regeneration, shelter and structures, and diverse, nutrient-dense food production into beautiful and productive whole systems. Keith has been applying his love of nature, culture, and experience with activism to permaculture and ecological design since 1996, and has worked professionally in these fields since 2000. He is Permaculture Instructor on the faculties of the University of Vermont, Sterling College, the Yestermorrow Design Build School, and has worked for USAID ‘Farmer to Farmer’ in Nigeria and Ghana.
