“Long Way Down” Author Jason Reynolds to Speak Sept. 10 at NVU-Johnson

New York Times best-selling author Jason Reynolds will speak at 8 p.m. Sept. 10 at Northern Vermont University-Johnson.

The event, at Dibden Center for the Arts, is free for the public.

Reynolds will talk about his 2017 book “Long Way Down,” a novel written in verse for young adults about gun violence. The novel was named a Newbery Honor book and won other awards. Reynolds, who lives in Washington, D.C., will sign copies of his book after the talk.

“Long Way Down” is the “common book” read and discussed by all first-year students at NVU this semester. The book’s themes are reflected in other free events open to the public on campus this fall.

The events include:
•         a talk about racial disparities in Vermont policing Sept. 18
•         a screening of the documentary “The Mask You Live In” Sept. 23
•         a photography exhibit about racial issues that opens Oct. 14
•         a screening of the documentary “13th” Nov. 11
