Lyndon State To Host Info Night for Prospective Student Veterans

Lyndon State To Host Info Night for Prospective Student Veterans

Free Information Session, Dinner and Campus Tour

July 17, 2014

Lyndon State College is hosting a Veterans Info Night on Wednesday, July 30 at 4 p.m. in the Academic and Student Activities Center. The free event is intended for all veterans – – especially service members recently returned from deployment – – who are considering college as the next logical step.

The agenda for the event includes a presentation on Post 9/11 GI Bill educational benefits, support services for student veterans at LSC, an introduction to the college’s Student Veterans Club, information about how to apply and pay for college, and a question and answer period. After the presentations, attendees will be the college’s guests for dinner in the Stevens Dining Hall, followed by a tour of the campus led buy a current student veteran.

Lyndon State is committed to providing a supportive environment for student veterans. The college has once again been awarded a Military Friendly School Designation for 2014. Military Friendly Schools are the top 20 percent of college and universities nationwide that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

Lyndon is a proud member of the Yellow Ribbon Program which allows veterans to receive post 9/11 benefits. Member institutions work with the VA to choose the amount of tuition and fees that will be covered; the VA will match the amount. All qualified veterans pay Vermont resident tuition rates and fees will be covered. In addition to the VA Education Benefit, additional scholarships are available.

The application fee will be waived for veterans and the $200 tuition deposit will be waived when veterans decide to enroll at Lyndon State.

Lyndon State boasts an unusually active Student Veterans Club. The Club, in partnership with the LSC Veterans Student Support Committee and other veteran service organizations, hosts the annual NEK Veterans Summit at the college. The Club has also been instrumental in developing an on-campus Veterans Memorial Park and an informal lounge for student veterans.
