Hope Sharp, a Montpelier-based figurative painter, exhibits “Dance Improvisations”

March 7, 2017

A thesis exhibit of art by Johnson State College Master of Fine Arts student Hope Sharp will be displayed March 20-31 in the Julian Scott Memorial Gallery at Johnson State College.

The exhibit, “Dance Improvisations,” and a reception at the gallery at 4 p.m. March 29 are both free to the public. The reception will feature a talk by Sharp and a dance performance.

Sharp, a Montpelier-based figurative painter, created the series of large-scale oils on linen and canvas while watching dancers perform live hip hop, jazz, ballet and other movements.

Sharp is artist-in-residence at Contemporary Dance and Fitness Studio in Montpelier. Her formal painting training includes B.F.A. studies at Pratt Institute. She has had residencies at Vermont Studio Center and Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is also open during performances at Dibden Center for the Arts.
