Major Jackson to Read from ‘Roll Deep’

Award-winning Vermont poet to visit JSC on Dec. 3

Major Jackson, an award-winning poet and Richard Dennis Green and Gold Professor of English at the University of Vermont, will read from his latest collection of poetry, Roll Deep, on Thursday, Dec. 3, at Johnson State College.

His poetry reading will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Stearns Student Center’s Cinema Room.

Jackson, a core faculty member of the Bennington Writing Seminars, also is the author of Holding Company (2010) and Hoops (2006), both finalists for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literature-Poetry, and Leaving Saturn (2002), winner of the 2001 Cave Canem Poetry Prize and finalist for a National Book Critics Award Circle.

He has been honored by the Pew Fellowship in the Arts and the Witter Bynner Foundation in conjunction with the Library of Congress. He has served as a creative arts fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University and as the Jack Kerouac Writer-in-Residence at University of Massachusetts-Lowell. He currently serves as the poetry editor of the Harvard Review.
