NVU Basketball Teams Showcased Do North Spirit Last Night!

Men’s and Women’s Badgers and Hornets basketball teams treated fans to a fantastic show of Do North determination last night in NAC playoff opener games, as two teams rallied to comeback wins, one added nine points to a three-point lead in the final 1:19, and the fourth fought hard in overtime.

The Lyndon Hornet women’s team held a three-point lead with 1:19 minutes to go against UMaine-Farmington and then scored nine points to emerge with a 73-61 victory. The Hornet men’s team rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to defeat Maine Maritime Academy 69-63.  “It was an exciting night for our men’s and women’s basketball teams as they both won quarterfinal games in the North Atlantic Conference basketball tournaments. Basketball seasons are a long marathon and last night our women’s and men’s teams reaped a reward for all their hard work,” said NVU-Lyndon Director of Athletics Chris Gilmore. “We are very proud of them as they represent NVU-Lyndon at the highest level.”

The Johnson Badgers women’s team fought hard in an overtime thriller against Cazenovia, coming up short by five points in the 60-55 result — but wow, what a game! The men’s team came back from an eight-point deficit with eight minutes left, tied it up with 30 seconds left, and pulled out a 65-62 victory against Cazenovia. “The crowd helped create an incredible atmosphere in Carter Gymnasium,” said Greg Eckman, NVU-Johnson Interim Director of Athletics and Head Women’s Basketball Coach. “The men’s team pulled together for a great come-from-behind victory keyed by a big dunk by senior Zach Shedd which started their final scoring run. Our women’s team once again found themselves in an OT game with Cazenovia, and the Badgers battled their heart out and we are extremely proud of them. We are so proud of our basketball teams and wish the men the best of luck in the Divisional Playoff round this Friday.”

Go Hornets, Go Badgers!
