NVU to Hold Virtual Commencement Celebrations for Johnson and Lyndon Campuses
Northern Vermont University will celebrate its 2020 graduating class with two virtual celebrations and a unique personalized website for the Class of 2020. The virtual celebration watch parties will premiere on YouTube at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 16 (NVU-Johnson and NVU Online) and Sunday, May 17 (NVU-Lyndon). Visit NorthernVermont.edu/Celebrate to connect to both the watch parties and after they air, to connect to the personalized websites.
“Though we are saddened we cannot celebrate the Class of 2020 in person this year, it is vitally important to recognize each student’s accomplishments this spring,” says NVU President Elaine C. Collins. “We invite our graduates and their families and friends, as well as our community members, to join us for this important milestone by tuning in to the celebrations. Congratulations, Class of 2020.”
The online celebrations will include video messages from President Elaine C. Collins and Provost Nolan Atkins, along with well wishes from alumni, faculty, and staff. Each graduate will be individually recognized with a slide during the YouTube stream and on a personalized webpage.
The Johnson celebration includes the alma mater sung by a choir comprised of 59 people, collectively representing the years since the Vermont State Colleges System was founded in 1961. The Lyndon celebration includes the alma mater sung by Kingdom Crescendos and friends.
The virtual celebrations and an accompanying website with personalized social media graphics and a reading of the names will be at NorthernVermont.edu/Celebrate. The livestream will also be on the Northern Vermont University Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/NorthernVTUniversity.
On-campus commencement ceremonies for the 2020 graduates will take place in May 2021. The ceremonies will be on the same day, but in a separate ceremony, as the May 2021 commencement.
