October Break Days Announced
A Message from President Elaine C. Collins
Last Thursday night, the executive team met with the NVU student leadership from both campuses to assess how the fall semester experience is going within the restrictions in place due to COVID-19. Based on this discussion, along with feedback from many students, faculty, and staff, the executive team has made the decision to hold a two-day break for NVU students Wednesday and Thursday, October 28 and 29. Strict adherence to the Vermont cross-state travel guidelines will be required, as it always is. We know this break is brief and we hope it will give you some reprieve. This adjustment to the calendar does not apply to NVU Online since that calendar was not impacted by COVID-19.
During this break, we would like you, our NVU students, to relax and refresh so you can resume your studies and finish out the semester a bit renewed. Take a walk outside to fill your lungs with fresh air. Exercising outdoors is one of the healthiest ways to reduce stress. Read a book for pleasure. Catch up on homework. Take a nap. Watch a movie. Spend time with a friend or two in a socially distanced way—and with masks.
Please, do not travel. Stay on campus or at home if you commute. We made this decision to support you and we must ask that you support the full NVU community by doing all you can to keep members of the community safe. Again, follow the Vermont cross-state travel guidelines.
We knew as we entered the fall semester that we would need to adjust. We are making that adjustment now, and as we build the spring semester schedule, we will include days off.
Thank you to all of you for your continued commitment to the NVU Health Pledge. As I told the student leaders, your dedication to health and safety is noted. We frequently hear how appreciative our communities are that you are following the health and safety guidelines. This is one benefit of a small university. We know each other. We care about each other. We know our own behavior has an impact on others. We are proud of you.
Stay tuned for an email from Provost Nolan Atkins regarding the details of the Pass/No Pass grading option. Enjoy your weekend and stay local. #MaskUpNVU
Best,
Elaine
