Patrick Rogers Wins Alumni Award

Patrick Rogers Wins Young Alumni Award

September 25, 2010

Patrick Rogers, a native of South Londonderry and a 2000 graduate of Green Mountain Union High School, received a 2010 Rising Star/Young Alumni Award from Johnson State College (JSC) on Saturday, September 25, at a ceremony during JSC’s Fallfest Reunion Weekend.

The award recognizes JSC graduates from the past decade who have enjoyed considerable early career success and are an inspiration to current students. Nominations come from JSC faculty, staff and alumni, with final selection by the college president.

Rogers is associate director of admissions at JSC and the key contact in the Admissions Department for marketing and communications.

In presenting the award, JSC President Barbara E. Murphy noted that Patrick speaks from his heart when introducing prospective students to Johnson State or talking with high school students during recruitment visits. “He has a passion for higher education – particularly Johnson State College – and is steadfast in his belief that JSC will inspire and change students’ lives for the better,” she said.

Penny Howrigan, associate dean of enrollment management at JSC, described Rogers as “loyal, hardworking, modest, a big-picture thinker, an organizer, a problem solver and a leader,” adding that those qualities, combined with his friendly, charismatic nature, have earned him the respect of JSC faculty, staff and students.

Rogers recently received a scholarship to attend a regional meeting of admissions counselors and was named chair of the Consortium of Vermont Colleges, which represents all colleges in the state. An active rugby player, he advises the men’s rugby club on campus in his spare time.

Rogers, 26, is the son of Barbara Rogers of South Londonderry.
